The schedule for Monday at the 2013 AjPHA Youth World Show has been entirely devoted to the discipline of hunter under saddle. In addition to hunter under saddle classes in four different divisions, Novice Youth, Walk Trot, 13 and Under, and 14-18, there are also Solid Paint Bred classes and a full slate of hunt seat equitation.
New for the show this year is the split of the Novice Youth Hunter Under Saddle into separate 13 and Under and 14-18 age divisions. In addition, separate Intermediate placings will be awarded to exhibitors within the different age divisions.
Competition is well underway, and the first few World Champions of the day have been named. Scroll below to view partial results from this morning’s competition. To view complete results for every class, please click here.

We caught up with one of the winners, Kayleigh Azevedo, as she headed off to prepare for her next class, 14-18 Hunter Under Saddle. Just moments ago, Azevedo and Could B Sensational were named the World Champions out of 23 entries in the Novice Youth 14-18 Hunter Under Saddle, where they received three second place finishes, a third and a seventh.
After they compete in the 14-18 Hunter Under Saddle, the pair will get only a moment’s rest before heading back to the pen again this afternoon for the 14-18 Hunt Seat Equitation. Later on in the show Azevedo will be competing with “Cleo” in almost every all-around event, with the exception of western riding and jumping, a pretty impressive feat for a mare that’s only four years old.
“I’ve had her for a year,” Azevedo says. “This was my first show with her last year. She has learned a lot really fast.”
This is Azevedo’s second World title. In 2012, she was named the Reserve World Champion in Novice Youth Showmanship with another mount. Currently Azevedo and “Cleo” compete under the guidance of Carly Veldman and Wade Parks.
Best of luck to all of the exhibitors competing in the equitation classes this afternoon.
