Earlier this year, Steve Jensen’s legendary stallion, two time World Champion Kid Coolsified, set a new standard for breeders everywhere when his offspring topped $1,000,000 in winnings, making him the first Halter sire to reach that pinnacle. That number is now above $1,400,000 and rising. The offspring of Kid Coolsified have won dozens of World Champion and Congress titles, and multiple Congress Grand Champion and Reserve Champion titles in a wide variety of classes. This exceptional stallion is in a league of his own, and he continues to make an indelible mark on the Halter industry.
He is a product of exceptional training, care, and genetics, all thanks to Steve Jensen’s passion to create top quality Halter horses at Jensen Quarter Horses. Steve is an Adult and Pediatric Urologist and Assistant Professor at MichiganState University School of Medicine. He also owns Temptation Farm in Freeland, Michigan, with his wife, Kelli. He couldn’t be more proud of the stallion he describes as a “puppy dog.” However, it’s no fluke that this magnificent stallion with a sweet disposition has turned out to be one for the history books. Steve holds degrees in multiple fields of medicine and biology. Combined with a life spent around horses, he approaches breeding with a solid knowledge of anatomy combined with a savvy horseman’s eye. He’s had a passion for horses that he admits has bordered on fanaticism since he can remember, and he laughs when he recalls the first word he said as a toddler, “I’m not kidding…it really was ‘Horse’. Basically, it’s been horses for me ever since.”
Steve’s grandfather, Harold Parker, raised and trained Thoroughbred racehorses and bought him his first horse, Jeannie, an ornery Quarter Horse/Clydesdale mare, when he was eight years old. Steve recalls, “Dad was a doctor, and he liked the country club life, not the country life, so he really wasn’t into horses.” When Steve was 10 and still obsessed with horses, his father recognized his son’s dedication and passion and supported it by investing in riding lessons. Turning to his close friend, the famous auctioneer Dean Parker, Steve’s dad helped find his son a Skipper W gelding “right off the Wiescamp ranch,” and Cherokee Skip became Steve’s best friend throughout childhood.
