Judges Named For 2022 AQHA Level 1 Championships

The American Quarter Horse Association has announced the judges for the 2022 Nutrena East and West AQHA Level 1 Championships where each show will award over 100 championship titles and more than $100,000 in cash and prizes.

“We are excited to once again host the Nutrena AQHA Level 1 Championships as stand-alone events in 2022 and have an excellent roster of judges slated for each show,” said Justin Billings, AQHA chief show officer. “It is important for exhibitors to know they are being evaluated in accordance with the rules and by a highly qualified group of AQHA judges.”

The judges selected for the 2022 Nutrena AQHA Level 1 Championships are:

Nutrena East AQHA Level 1 Championships

  • Mark Baus of Plainview, Minnesota
  • Sandra Curl of Vero Beach, Florida
  • David Fairchild of Saint Charles, Iowa
  • Lisa Farrell of Durham, Connecticut
  • Kimberly Leiter of Martin, Tennessee
  • Mark Russell of Perry, Arkansas
  • James Simpson of Lakeville, New Brunswick
  • Amy Watkins of Canfield, Ohio
  • Shane Young of Yadkinville, North Carolina

Nutrena West AQHA Level 1 Championships

  • Clint Ainsworth of Lithonia, Georgia
  • John Briggs of Pilot Point, Texas
  • Mike Hawkins of Citra, Florida
  • Will Knabenshue of Whitesboro, Texas
  • Stephen Stephens of Weatherford, Texas
  • Bruce Walquist of Cleburne, Texas

The 2022 Nutrena AQHA East Level 1 Championships is tentatively scheduled for April 27 to May 1 at the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio. The Nutrena AQHA West Level 1 Championships is slated for May 18-22 and will be held in conjunction with the Arizona Quarter Horse Association’s Pinnacle Circuit at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Arizona. Both events will feature Level 1, Rookie and walk-trot championship classes.

The AQHA Cattle Level 1 Championships, presented by the Four Sixes Ranch, will return to the 2022 AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championships, tentatively scheduled for June 20-25 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

The Nutrena AQHA Level 1 Championships feature walk-trot, Rookie and Level 1 classes. The shows offer a variety of events and activities for competitors, friends, family and spectators to take part in throughout the show, including free Ride the Pattern clinics taught by AQHA Professional Horsemen. The Level 1 Championships are intended for exhibitors to learn and grow in the show arena while sharpening their horsemanship skills. The shows provide a welcoming environment for AQHA members to be showcased in a championship arena and to compete to earn top prizes for their dedication.
