Josh Weakly exited the arena this morning with his fourth title of the 2013 AQHA World Show. This time it was at the lead of FG Coco Chanel in Amateur Weanling Fillies.

Just yesterday, Weakly was named the World Champion in Amateur Aged Mares with Elusive Premonition. Earlier in the show, he achieved a Reserve World Championship in Amateur 2-Year-Old Geldings with Gamechanger and a Reserve World Championship with Call Me Maibe in Amateur Yearling Fillies. The filly he showed today is by Image of Kid.

“We bought her back in August from Gary and Linda Gordon,” Weakly says. “We showed her in Iowa and won the Open Breeder’s Filly Futurity with her. Then, we sent her home with Luke [Castle], and we showed our other filly that we did so good with at the Congress, HR Secret Lady.”

In our interview with Weakly following his wins at the Quarter Horse Congress, he discussed how physically taxing it can be on these young halter horses to compete at multiple major events in such a short stretch of time. He relies on the guidance of Andy Staton and Luke Castle to fit, show, and maintain his young prospects.

“We’ve tried to do all of these shows with the same one, and they can’t do it,” he says. “We decided that we’d do Iowa and here with this filly, and we did the WCHA Futurity and the Congress with the other filly. We have the ‘Little Filly’ and the ‘Big Filly’ this year.”

“Big Filly” will compete in the Open Weanling Fillies with Luke Castle later in the show. Weakly has one more horse left to show in the very next class, 2-Year-Old Mares, then he plans to enjoy being a spectator for the remainder of the World Show. He will be joining his wife, Kaleena Weakly, to watch his horses show in the open portion of the competition.

We wondered, with Kaleena’s active participation in amateur all-around events and Josh’s focus on halter classes, what are they hoping will be the discipline of choice for soon-to-be-born “Baby Jax”?

“I’m hoping for a tractor baby that maybe doesn’t do the horses,” Josh Weakly says. “Maybe we’ll have a tractor salesman and not a horse-shower. That’s too expensive!”
