Inaugural Northeast Paint Horse Championship, August 9-10, NJ

APHA exhibitors in the Northeast have a chance to make history at the first-ever APHA Regional Paint Horse Championship August 9-10. The championship, held in conjunction with the Zone 7 Zone-O-Rama in Logan Township, New Jersey, is designed to attract and reward talented exhibitors who reside within the northeastern region of the United States.

Designed with an emphasis of encouraging participation from new and local exhibitors, 17 regional champion classes—selected based on frequent participation within the zone—will be available with limited eligibility.

Regional champions will receive custom Gist Silversmiths trophy buckles, and medallions will be awarded to second- through tenth-place exhibitors. Awards are sponsored by APHA.

“The Northeast Paint Horse Championship is a great opportunity for Paint Horse owners and exhibitors to show with success against their peers on a even playing field,” APHA Senior Director of Shows Holly Slaughter said. “With APHA providing top-notch awards and Zone 7 offering a welcoming environment, these special Regional Paint Horse Championships will encourage participation and give exhibitors a taste of how fun and rewarding showing with APHA can be.”

Regional Championship Show Eligibility Criteria

The Northeast Paint Horse Championship classes are open to exhibitors residing in Zone 7 and horses whose owners reside in Zone 7—the zone includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. Owners and exhibitors must be current APHA members to compete.

Halter

An exhibitor who has placed in the Top 10 in a halter class at an APHA World Championship Show in the past five years (2009 to 2013) is not eligible to compete in any Northeast Paint Horse Championship halter class in any division with a horse of the same sex.

A horse that has placed in the Top 10 in a halter class at an APHA World Championship Show in the past five years is not eligible to compete in any Northeast Paint Horse Championship halter class, regardless of division.

Performance

An exhibitor who has placed in the Top 10 in a performance class at an APHA World Championship Show in the past five years is not eligible to compete in any Northeast Paint Horse Championship performance class in any division involving the same class.

A horse that has placed in the Top 10 in a performance class at an APHA World Championship Show in the past five years is not eligible to compete in any division of the same class at the Northeast Paint Horse Championship.
