Inaugural Buckeye Blitz 5K Coming to 2015 Buckeye Classic

Are you a runner? Have you ever thought of starting to run? Will you be attending The Buckeye Classic this July? If so, you won’t want to miss out on the show’s inaugural Buckeye Blitz 5K Fun Run/Walk.  Exhibitors, their families, and community members can spend the morning of Tuesday, July 21, running, jogging, or walking together and then enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast afterwards.

The idea of hosting a 5K (3.1 miles) at The Buckeye came to some of the Ohio Amateur QHA members while they were taking a jog through the grounds during last year’s show. They observed that there were quite a few people walking and running each morning, and they decided this would be a fun activity for one of the show’s “off” days.

True to the hospitality you have come to know with The Buckeye, participants will receive a moisture-wicking t-shirt, a finisher’s medal, a goodie bag, and a ticket to the pancake breakfast following the race. Registration is $25 per person, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Awards will be given for the Top Overall Male, Top Overall Female, Top Youth, Top Amateur, Top Trainer, and Top Dog (literally, the leashed dog/runner pair that finishes first). Additionally, prizes will be given for the best costume and the barn/team with the most participants (teams may be identified on the registration form).

As Tuesday, July 21st, is exactly 9 weeks away, this is the perfect time for those who may be interested in the run to start using the training provided by the Couch-to-5K Running Plan. There’s a C25K mobile app available that will keep you motivated as you do the 20- to 30-minute workouts three days per week. This running plan is designed for people who are not “runners” but who would like to complete their first 5k and run the whole time.

(No disclaimer needed—there’s no connection between The Buckeye Blitz and the C25K app, except that several Ohio Amateurs have personally been successful at building their running foundation with the C25K app.)

We encourage everyone to consider participating in this fun run/walk! You may register for the run by clicking HERE.
