We’d like to extend our condolences to Brian Burya and Tiffanie Burya on the recent loss of Rumors Haz It, their 2016 bay mare by Lazy Loper and out of Inviting Rumors.

“Shayla” had been born in Weatherford, Texas, at Dry River Ranch, which is owned by Stephen Stephens and Terry Cross, and the Buryas purchased her when she was just three weeks old.  In her show career, Shayla demonstrated she was the ultimate western all around horse, excelling in trail, showmanship, horsemanship, and performance halter, earning hundreds of AQHA points and countless circuit wins.

In addition, she and Tiffanie were crowned Novice Amateur Reserve World Champions in Trail at the NSBA World Championship Show, as well earning a Top 6 Title in Horsemanship.

Like many great show horses, her spirit of giving and “try” stood out to everyone. “Shayla was just wanted to please you whenever she was showing,” says Tiffanie Burya.

Trainer Terry Cross agrees, explaining that of her limitless good qualities, Shayla was a real teacher to Tiffanie.  “Shayla had a person, and Tiffanie was her person, and she’d do just about anything for her. Though Tiffanie has ridden with us forever, she was given the opportunity to start her career in horsemanship because of Shayla, who was always patient with her.”

Brian and Tiffanie Burya want to thank Terry Cross and Stephen Stephens for taking such good care of her throughout her life at Dry River Ranch.

The Equine Chronicle would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Buryas, and to Terry Cross and Stephen Stephens on the loss of this wonderful mare.

Somewhere…somewhere in time’s own space
there must be some sweet, pastured place.

Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
some Paradise where horses go.

For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again.
