Last Friday, Last Piece Of Pie (4-25-1999/4-18-2025) was laid to rest. It was discovered he had a tumor, most likely cancerous that was blocking his airway. There were no treatment options.
Guapo wasn’t just any horse, he was a Famous horse! People from across the country, Canada too, knew him by name. He started showing in 2001 winning The Masters with Kristy McCann. In 2002, he became a member of the Ryssel family and never left. He finished his long and storied western riding career with his mama Renee Ryssel in 2024 at the age of 25.
I was lucky and honored to care for Guapo these last few years.. Charlie and I will miss him more than words can say..
We love you, sweet Guapo. Rest easy my friend.
Thank you to Kimberly Handy Boyce for submitting this tribute to Guapo.
The Equine Chronicle chatted with Renee Rysell and Guapo at the 2024 Arizona Sun Circuit, which happened to be the show marking his official retirement.
