It’s a warm 88 degrees, and the sun is shining on the first day of the Color On The Coast horse show in Williamston, North Carolina. 2012 was the inaugural year for the event, but already the show is proving to be very popular drawing exhibitors from across the country to North Carolina’s sunny shorelines.
APHA amateur exhibitor, Elizabeth “Spike” Brewer, is attending the show for the first time and is thoroughly impressed with the class numbers and level of competition thus far.
“So far, it looks like a GREAT show,” Brewer says. “There are trailers parked all the way around the back of the barns, over 250 stalls sold, and horses from Florida, Georgia, Texas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, and Delaware. It is a well represented show!”
“I’ve heard many comments [about] how everyone loved the show last year and had such a great time. They definitely wanted to come back. That’s impressive to hear. Hats off to the show staff for going above and beyond to accommodate each and every exhibitor!”
The Color On The Coast is a joint production hosted by the Carolina Paint Horse Club and Virginia Paint Horse Club. The show begins today with a four-judge Open Paint-O-Rama that concludes on the 19th. The second four-judge Open POR will take place July 20-21. Judges for the show are Chris Arnold, Vicki Radtke, Butch Carse, Darrel Bilke, Deb Jarvis, Bill French, Pauli Crull, and John Aipperspach.
“It definitely looks like a BIG show with great numbers!” Brewer says. “There were 28 in Senior Amateur Geldings and 17 in the Aged Geldings this morning. I just heard them call for 30 in the Amateur Showmanship and 15 in the Novice Amateur, so there are a lot of showmanship exhibitors. I’m guessing the riding classes will be equally as big!”
