Healing with Horses Ranch, a 501(c)(3) non-profit PATH Intl. Certified equine therapy center, will host its Second Annual Barn Bash on October 15, 2016, 5 p.m. The Barn Bash will offer events such as live music, silent and live auctions, photos with the mini horse, Oreo, and more. This year, the ranch is raising funds to build a covered arena so that students can ride around the year and in all weather.
Healing with Horses Ranch offers lessons to at-risk youth, veterans, and individuals with physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges. In partnership with specially trained therapy horses, therapeutic riding encourages healing and independence for people with disabilities.
“Our goal this year is to raise enough to build a covered arena. It’s a big endeavor, but the benefits will be monumental – too often, the weather impacts what we are able to do with the students,” said Patty D’Andrea, Executive Director. “A covered arena means we will have the protected space to have lessons safely and comfortably, and our kids will have consistent access to the incredible physical and emotional benefits of equine assisted therapies.”
The barn, which opened in 2012, has worked with over 130 students and over 350 volunteers and community members throughout Austin and the greater region. In the past year, they have doubled the number of students they serve, trained and hired two new instructors, and are in the process of mentoring eight more instructors-in-training. They recently launched a Veterans program, developed to empower our service men and women who have served in any military branch during any wartime crisis.
“Each year, we host the Barn Bash to celebrate all of our students, volunteers, instructors, and of course, horses. We have such a wonderful family supporting Healing with Horses Ranch, and we love bringing them all together,” said Elyse Schmitt, Fundraising Committee Chair. “It’s amazing to see the whole community come together and support Healing with Horses, and be able to celebrate all of the passion and love that goes into the program.”
Healing with Horses Ranch is also accepting in-kind and monetary donations for the event, including silent auction items and event supplies such as food and decorations.
