Although he’s not an equine, we’d like to wish a very Happy 3rd Birthday to a special giraffe who has a horse industry connection. Gerald currently resides at Charlie Cole and Jason Martin’s Highpoint Performance Horses in Pilot Point, TX and is just one of a menagerie of animals at the ranch.
Gerald was born October 11th, 2013 at a ranch in North Carolina. Sadly, he was orphaned by his mother. Thanks to some tender, loving care and bottle-feeding, Gerald survived and thrived. He arrived at Highpoint in June 2014 and has made Texas his home.
By the time Gerald is five, he will mature to 16-20 feet tall! There are approximately only 8,600 of Gerald’s species (reticulated giraffe) left in the wild.
In honor of Gerald’s third birthday, friends in the horse industry from around the country traveled to Highpoint Performance Horses over the weekend to celebrate. Included in the festivities was a giraffe ice sculpture, hot air balloon rides, a full-size inflatable play zone and slide, a live band, and the opportunity for people to get their own giraffe spotted tattoos! A wonderful time was had by all.
Happy Birthday Gerald!
