Everyone at The Equine Chronicle would like to send Happy Birthday wishes to Lester Howard as he reaches a milestone today of his 90th birthday!
We spoke with one of Lester’s friends and protege’s, Troy Oakley, to chat about the importance Lester had on his future career path and life as a whole.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for Lester. He moved to North Carolina in 1976, and I started going down to his place in 1979, when I was 15 years old. Everything I do today is because of him. I mean this wholeheartedly, he single handedly changed the way that horse training was done on the east coast. He helped so many people like Jamie and EH Pait and Alex Ross. He’s just a great horseman.”
“He could do it all. He specialized in making AQHA Champions. He did Western Pleasure, Western Riding, and Reining. He did an event they called Saddle Seat Hack at the Congress in the late 70s and won that. He’s an amazing horseman.”
Happy Birthday to Lester!
