Just moments ago, the final hunter under saddle class of the day concluded at the 2013 AjPHA Youth World Show. Taking the World Championship title in Youth 14-18 Hunter Under Saddle was Jenni Hansen riding Inthesweetshop.
Judging the class of 46 entries was Casey Devitt, Brad Kearns, Kathryn Kope, Stephanie Lynn, and Tom McBeath. Hansen and “Bentley” received an almost unanimous placing across the board with four firsts and one second.
Coming in Reserve in this tough class was Taylor Dixon riding My Sensational Cookie. Rounding out the top three was Ashley Aden riding Reddyformycloseup.
In the Intermediate portion of the class Anna Hutlas rode Don’t Rock My World to win the top title with Brett Sanders and My Legs R Sensational and Tasha Gibson with Mr Slow Ride coming in second and third respectively.

We caught up with Jenni Hansen who was reviewing a videotape of her ride following the class today in preparation for the 14-18 Equitation this evening.
“That’s probably the best go he’s ever given me,” Hansen says. “He just has never trotted that big and floaty before. I got out there and I was like,’wow, I don’t even know where this trot came from!’ But we kept going with it.”
“It was not easy to get a good spot. It was hard to maneuver through the other horses. I just tried to do my best and listen to Sara [Simons] and it worked out.”
This is just the first class of the horse show for Hansen and Bentley, who also plan to compete in 14-18 Equitation, Trail, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, and Horsemanship. Although Hansen describes her 6-year-old gelding as more of a “little, pleasure, all around horse,” this event is nothing new for the duo. They were named the APHA Honor Roll winners in the class for 2012.
“Winning this first class probably gives me more pressure, but I’ve just got to move on and put that behind me and just focus on equitation,” she says. “It should be a good pattern for us. I’m excited about it. The preliminary pattern seems kind of flowy, so it should be fun.”
Best of luck goes to Hansen and all of the other exhibitors competing in equitation classes this evening.
