WACO, Texas – TCU equestrian’s Bri Gonzalez has been named the NCEA Standout Student-Athlete of the Month for January, the NCEA announced. The award recognizes the wholistic contributions of student-athletes to their communities, schools and teams during the year.
“It is an honor to have another Horned Frog selected as the Standout Student-Athlete of the Month,” TCU Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield said. “We pride ourselves not only on being great in competition, but great people who make TCU a better place for all. Bri really embodies that mentality and it is exciting to see her get recognized.”
Gonzalez has joined multiple organizations to better improve TCU’s campus, helping to coordinate the equity and inclusion campaign. She also joined in with TCU’s unity statement helping to project a message of togetherness about the ending of racism.
The junior is also newly appointed to the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Within the organization, she serves as the social media coordinator where she works to communicate the efforts of the group to athletics administration as well as the student body as a whole.
“It is more important now than ever that we communicate, support and tackle tough issues that many of our athletes face,” Gonzalez said. “I want to create environments that everyone is included and have a voice that is heard. It is in this spirit that we can uphold the pride and tradition of TCU.”
The Frogs have had recent success winning Student-Athlete of the Month honors, which is a testament to the character Coach Schoolfield and her staff look for. Six of the last 13 honorees from this award have come from TCU.
