Frank Berris and It’s Gameday continued the winning streak they began at the 2013 Quarter Horse Congress by winning the World Championship title in Amateur Yearling Geldings this afternoon at the 2013 AQHA World Show. Berris’s gelding is by Mr. Touchdown Kid, the same sire of his former World and Congress Champion earning gelding, Boys N Toys.

“I won the Congress with [Boys N Toys], and he went Grand Champion in the Open,” Berris says. “I came here and won the World with him, and then sold him to Vern Habighorst. Then, he won the Open for them. This one here I bought to replace him. [It’s Gameday] won last year in the Open Weanling Colts with Randy Jacobs showing.”

After making the decision to geld his new yearling, Berris had to re-qualify for the AQHA World Show this year. The pair competed at the Congress where they were the unanimous choice of the judges in the amateur division. Ross Roark led the yearling to a unanimous win in the open division.

“I don’t know what the individual placings were today, but I’m kind of anxious to see,” he says. “He really showed good. I love that horse. He’s so easy, and Ross does a heck of a job.”

“That’s a long trip from West Texas to the Congress and back, but Ross knows how to handle that. The horse came through good. The horse is so solid in every way. He’s healthy and easy to show. He’s so good-minded. That’s the best gelding I’ve ever had.”

Later on in the week, Roark will show It’s Gameday in the open division. Looking forward to the future, Berris is planning to hold on to this particular horse, for the time being. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t in the market for a new prospect to add to his stable.

“I really like this one,” he says. “He’s bay, and I like a bay halter horse. I think I’m going to keep him for a little bit. I won’t have to worry about qualifying him next year. He can rest until next year. That will make Ross happy! He won’t have to go chasing me down to Florida.”

“We had a great year last year, and we were blessed to have a good year this year. We have one horse, and we are looking for another one. I sold my CK Mardi Gras mare, that I love, and I would like another mare. I’ve got my eye on another one…”
