| Four youth captured titles and scholarships during the National Youth Cutting Horse Association’s Grace Ranch Youth World Finals and Scholarship Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, July 24, during the Great American Insurance Group NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular.
Shannon McCoy, 18, of Weatherford, Texas, captured the National Youth Cutting Horse Association’s Senior Youth World Championship with her horse Pepcorn.
McCoy and Pepcorn, by Dual Pep, earned a total of 193 points over the 2012-2013 point season to capture the title. McCoy added 11 points to her total to move from the number two spot going into the Finals to take the win.
McCoy was awarded the $10,000 Joseph Broderick Beaver Memorial Scholarship, as well as a Roohide Trophy Saddle, a Gist Silversmiths custom belt buckle, custom spurs from Kerry Kelley, an official NCHA trophy, a bridle from Dennis Moreland, clothing from Cinch and Cruel Girl jeans and shirts, boots from Rios of Mercedes, a jacket courtesy of Metallic Cat, as well as a buckle frame and a quart of Lubrisyn.
McCoy lives with her parents, Jeff and Margaret McCoy, and brother, Nick, on the Diamond M Ranch in Weatherford where they raise and show cutting horses.
Williams “Colt” Moore of Morriston, Fla., captured the Junior Youth World Championship with his mount Special Order Paint.
Moore and Special Order Paint, owned by Frank and Ora Diehl, earned a total of 178 points at the NYCHA Grace Ranch Youth World Finals over the 2012-2013 point season to capture the title. Moore added 12 points to his total after three rounds of competition to move from the number two spot going into the Finals to take the win.
Moore was awarded a scholarship courtesy of Circle Y Ranch, as well as a Roohide Trophy Saddle, a Gist Silversmiths custom belt buckle, custom spurs from Kerry Kelley, an official NCHA trophy, a bridle from Dennis Moreland, clothing from Cinch and Cruel Girl jeans and shirts, boots from Rios of Mercedes, a jacket courtesy of Metallic Cat, as well as a buckle frame and a quart of Lubrisyn.
Moore lives with his parents, Casey, a professional cutting horse trainer, and mother, Sheri, as well as brother, Kolby, who is president of the National Youth Cutting Horse Association.
Trea Rice of Spearman, Texas, captured the Senior Scholarship Championship.
Rice, 16, rode CR Sun Reys, owned by Center Ranch of Centerville, Texas, to an astounding score of 226 to take the win. She was awarded a scholarship, as well as a Sean Ryon Trophy Saddle, a Gist Silversmiths custom belt buckle, an official NCHA trophy, a bridle from Dennis Moreland, a felt hat from Sombrero Hat Brands, Rios of Mercedes boots as well as a supply Platinum Performance and Lubrisyin products.
Rice lives with her parents, Boyd, a professional cutting horse trainer, and her mother, Halee, in Spearman where she also enjoys competing in basketball. Her brothers, Tatum, of Weatherford, Texas, and Tarin, of Jacksboro, Texas, also train cutting horses professionally.
Lance Cooper of Weatherford, Texas, captured the Junior Scholarship Championship.
Cooper, 12, rode A Little Bossy, owned by Gary and Karen Fields, also of Weatherford, to a score of 223 to take the win. He was awarded the Dale Rice Memorial Scholarship, as well as a Sean Ryon Trophy Saddle, a Gist Silversmiths custom belt buckle, an official NCHA trophy, a bridle from Dennis Moreland, a felt hat from Sombrero Hat Brands, Rios of Mercedes boots as well as a supply Platinum Performance and Lubrisyin products.
Hosted by the governing body for the sport of cutting, the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) the Great American Insurance Summer Cutting Spectacular is the last of the NCHA Triple Crown series that offers more than $8 million in prize money throughout the series.
A total of 14 divisions of competition are being held throughout the event in Fort Worth, including special John Deere Open Divisions, as well as Non Professional, Amateur, Unlimited Amateur and Youth. An estimated $500,000 will be offered in the Summer Spectacular Derby Open Division for four-year-olds making their final major debut after the 2012 NCHA Futurity and 2013 Super Stakes. Prizes provided to sweeten the pot include saddles from Sean Ryon, trophy belt buckles from Gist Silversmiths, boots from Rios of Mercedes, hats from Sombrero Hat Brands and much more.
The National Cutting Horse Association approves approximately 1,600 events each year with purses totally more than $35 million throughout the sport. Cutting events take place throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, South American and Europe and are supported by such companies as Mercuria Energy, Ram Truck, Great American Insurance Group, the American Quarter Horse Association, John Deere Tractors and XTO Energy among many others.
