The first Zoetis AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge of the year takes place this weekend in Fort Worth.
The 2015 Zoetis American Quarter Horse Association Ranching Heritage Challenges slated thus far are scheduled to take place during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas, and Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in March in Houston. Other challenges will be announced later in the year.
The Zoetis Ranching Heritage Challenge at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is January 15-16 with $15,000 in added money plus jackpot and other prizes from Double J Saddlery and Professional’s Choice.
Ranching Heritage Challenges highlight the versatility, soundness and willing attitude of American Quarter Horses that are ranch born and raised. During these competitions, classes are limited to riders on horses bred by AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders – breeders who have been breeding American Quarter Horses for at least 10 years and whose horses are primarily bred to work cattle on a cow-calf ranch.
“The Ranching Heritage Breeder program recognizes AQHA’s ranching members who have continued to maintain the ranching tradition,” said Charlie Hemphill, AQHA director of shows and new events. “The challenges showcase ranch-raised horses while offering significant purses and prizes.”
The Ranching Heritage Challenge consists of three classes: working ranch horse, boxing and ranch riding. The classes are offered to different levels of riders and ages of horses. Purses are generated from a nomination payment, along with sustaining payments made by the new owner of the horses.
AQHA appreciates the generous support of Zoetis, Bar G Feedyards, Double J Saddlery and Professional’s Choice for supporting these ranching heritage events.
