Silver Dollar Circuit

The Daily Stride

Today marks the end of the 45th Silver Dollar Circuit. Every year, we are grateful to see the best of the best roll into Las Vegas with trailers loaded. We watch as points are earned, horses are qualified, and friends are made. Over the years, Silver Dollar exhibitors have made many memories following the show from Horseman’s Park, to Reno, to South Point, where it now calls home.

Jim Searles, a long time exhibitor at the show, recalls his fondest memory from a past Silver Dollar Circuit. “At the old fairgrounds at Horseman’s Park, a big wind storm came along during the Junior Pleasure and Clay Macleod and Berleen Ross lost their hats when they flew off and went up over the hill onto the golf course! It was hysterical!” A clear bonus of later moving the show to South Point is protection from the elements. You don’t have to worry about bad weather in this wonderful facility.

Kellie Hinely of Trendsetter Performance Horses fondly remembers her first Silver Dollar Circuit at the age of 16. She recalls receiving silver dollars as awards for classes, something the show brought back with their Silver Stakes Series this year. Each winner was awarded an antique silver dollar along with their big money winnings in each of the Silver Stakes classes. Kellie also shared her first memories of showing at the Silver Dollar Circuit. “I remember showing outside at Sam’s Town with generator, and it was freezing cold. I was really excited when it moved to South Point.”

There have been many changes in the show since the days at Horseman’s Park, including some of the more recent changes that have come up this year. The addition of the Silver Stakes Series is one major addition that has upped the excitement of the show. With over $60,000 awarded to winners at this year’s Silver Dollar, not to mention the prizes, the show is sending exhibitors home with pockets lined with cash.

The excitement from this series could be felt around the show. With the focus on the Level 2 riders, a group that doesn’t have as much offered to them as the Level 1 and 3 categories, this underserved group was elated to get the recognition they deserve. “We will definitely continue this series. It has added so much value for exhibitors to show at Silver Dollar,” says Silver Dollar Operations Manager Garrett Cooper. With excitement and energy up at this year’s show, they are looking to make more positive changes in 2021.

The big announcement…

The show will be moving to its new dates- January 15th-20th for 2021! the momentum and excitement from the new Silver Series will carry over to the Silver Dollar next year where exhibitors will be able to manage the schedules of the Silver Dollar and Sun Circuit more easily with a larger break in between. This change will be exciting for the show and another memorable benchmark to add to its 45 year history. The fun atmosphere, huge classes, and convenient facility at the South Point will continue to provide many more years of memories around these new dates. We cannot wait to see you all at Silver Dollar next year!
