Fulton, Mo. – The Western Club at William Woods University will host its semi-annual Fun Show April 4, starting at 9 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Nell Tekampe of Richmond, Illinois, will judge the show. Manager of Woodstock Ranch and owner of Nell Tekampe Performance Horses, she is a World Champion trainer of all-around performance horses.The slate of classes will range from Showmanship to Halter, Hunt Seat to Western, and much more. The show will be open to Hunters/Jumpers and certain Saddle Seat classes.Western Club also will be adding a Hunter/Jumper flat class, a cross rails class and potentially a gambler’s choice class to attract some out-of-seat riders. To provide opportunities for younger horse enthusiasts, 17 years old and under classes also have been added.According to Shannon Yeaton, WWU senior and Western Club president, the class that is generating the most excitement seems to be the rider swap class. This class consists of a team of two riders and one horse. The first rider will ride the horse, walk, trot and canter/lope the first direction and then come to the middle where the second rider will mount and do the same to the other direction.
Two High Points and two reserve High Points will be awarded at the conclusion of the show. Exhibitor fees are $5 per class or $35 to show all day. The show is open to WWU students and outside competitors.
“We want people to come to our show and enjoy a nice, relaxed and fun schooling show where they have the option to dress in full show attire or casual. ‘The more the merrier’ is how I look at it,” Yeaton said.
