Tuesday at the 2024 APHA World Championship Show in the Amateur Senior Western Pleasure, Erin Bradshaw and Elicious added another world title to their long list!
“Eli” has earned five World Championships and a Reserve World Championship in Western Pleasure with Erin before this date, and he has also won four World Championships in Open Western Pleasure.
The 2014 bay tobiano gelding was raised by Erin, is by her renowned sire, John Simon, and out of My Precious Lexus. The dam also produced Never Compromise and an AQHA World Champion, Erin explains, and their three-year-old is a full sister.
It was evident both by the crowd’s response and the online reaction to their win that Eli and Erin have a big fan club! Together, they’ve “won the Non Pro 2s, the Non Pro 3s, the Amateur Junior Pleasure, and the Amateur Senior Pleasure,” says Erin.
It’s an incredible track record, and when asked what the secret to the longevity of Eli and his sire, John Simon, who is still successfully competing at the World Show, this year as of age 18, Erin has this to say:
“We show them very seasonally,” Erin explains. “We ask them to give us 150 percent and then give them time off. We try to peak them once a year, not pushing them 12 months out of the year, and that seems to work out really well for them.”
