Equine Gastroscopy Educational Videos Now Available for Veterinarians
Boehringer Ingelheim shares scoping tips from equine gastric ulcer expert.
In keeping with its commitment to advancements in equine health, Boehringer Ingelheim has created two equine gastroscopy educational videos for veterinarians. The two videos, available at https://bit.ly/2Oa6p9h, provide detailed instruction on how to perform a gastroscopy and how to clean and disinfect a gastroscope.
The two videos feature instruction by Hoyt Cheramie, DVM, MS, DACVS, Senior Equine Professional Service Veterinarian, Boehringer Ingelheim. In his clinical practice experience and his work with Merial and now Boehringer Ingelheim, Cheramie has scoped more than 3,000 horses.
In the first video, Cheramie details how to perform a complete gastroscopic exam, explaining horse preparation and how to best manipulate the scope to view each portion of the stomach with ease. He also discusses what to look for and how to grade and characterize the lesion findings. The video demonstrates techniques for maximizing observation of lesions, including appropriate insufflation and rinsing, along with other tips.
The second video focuses on how to properly clean and disinfect a gastroscope. Cheramie walks through each step, starting with pressure testing, continuing with soapy cleaning, enzyme cleaning, disinfection, and ending with rinsing and drying.
“Helping other veterinarians to provide complete and efficient gastroscopy exams has been a passion of mine for quite some time,” Cheramie says. “I’m excited these videos will be able to reach more veterinarians looking for scoping tips.”
