Ever wondered what living in minus 30 degree weather conditions might feel like? Today’s The Equine Chronicle Photo of the Day will give you a glimpse into the lifestyle of one North Dakotan, who is well-versed in extreme winter weather.
AQHA amateur exhibitor, Brooke Victoria Ingstad, shared a few beautiful photos taken by her friend, Maddie Malat, who’s working on a photo and design exhibition for college called The Frozen Prairie Project.
“The Frozen Prairie Project is being done by my friend who is graduating college with an art degree. It’s a photo and design project dedicated to telling the story of North Dakota during the winter months. We’ve had days this winter that have been -30! It’s a cold place to live- definitely north of normal- but I am proud to be a North Dakotan!”
We wondered how living in such extreme cold affects Brooke’s ability to care for and ride her horses. “The barn is all heated and super warm. But, for the horses who get turned out, if affects them; because they don’t go outside when it’s super cold. Sometimes, the snowfall can make getting to the barn a bit difficult; but, for the most part, we’ve been here forever, so we have a system for dealing with cold and snow. You get used to it, and I personally think the barn looks beautiful covered in snow!”
