Eagles, Nielson, Orsak, and Hansen Shine in Equitation Classes at 2013 AjPHA Youth World Show

At the conclusion of this evening’s competition several talented equestriennes were awarded for their equitation skills and pattern presentation.

Returning to defend her double World Championship sweep in Novice Youth and 13 and Under Equitation in 2012 was Olivia Eagles, who rode Chipped In Roses to a World Championship win in 13 and Under Equitation today. Coming in Reserve was Emily Drew riding Cadets Honor. Rounding out the top three was Georgia Vernal riding Fascination Sensation.

In the Intermediate portion of the 13 and Under Equitation Taylor Burgess rode All For Me to a Championship win with Mackenzie Preston and Brokers Lucky Kid in second and Kameron Thorn with Vested Sheik in third.

Thorn had already ridden Vested Sheik to a Reserve World Championship finish in the prior class, Novice Youth Equitation 13 and Under, but it was Caroline Nielson and Stately Sensation who took the win in that division.

The Novice Youth Equitation 14-8 saw Sarah Orsak and My Cowboy Cadillac take the win with Lexi Edwards and Fancy Details in second and Alexandra Fink and Gallant Zippo in third.

Jenni Hansen returned from her win in the 14-18 Hunter Under Saddle earlier today to take another World Championship title in the 14-18 Equitation. The Reserve World Champion was Kelsey Jung riding A Painted Selection, and coming in third was Alexis Miller riding Thanks For Zip En Me.

We had the chance to chat with Olivia Eagles following her repeat win in the 13 and Under Equitation with her tobiano gelding “Brett.” If the pair’s performance at the 2012 Youth World Show is any indication, this dynamic duo may be off to quite a winning streak in the 13 and Under division this week.

Last year was their first time competing at the Youth World, and they took home three World Championships in Novice Youth Equitation, 13 and Under Equitation, and Novice Youth Horsemanship. Last year, Eagles won her first class of the show, Novice Youth Equitation. Today, also in her first class of the show, Eagles was named the World Champion again.

“Equitation is my favorite class,” she says. “I always like practicing it. My mom used to coach hunter-jumpers, so I’ve always loved to ride english. I love riding english and practicing all the time.”

The pair will compete in 13 and Under Showmanship, Western Riding, Trail, Horsemanship, and Western Pleasure later in the week. While one might think that winning the first class of the show could add some extra pressure going into the rest of the competition, Eagles says it actually makes her feel better to get one solid performance under her belt.

“I think Brett likes doing patterns,” she says. “He likes a challenge. He has a really good personality, he loves everyone, and he will work for treats. We have little shamrock treats, and they are peppermint. He likes them a lot.”

Eagles currently competes under the guidance of Simons Show Horses, who had great success today as a group winning both the 13 and Under and 14-18 Equitation. Eagles was happy to share in the group victory. In fact, her favorite part of her win today was sharing the top three 13 and Under spots with her two best friends, Emily Drew and Georgia Vernal.
