Several familiar faces and a few new ones came to the show pen for the 13 and under and 14-18 Showmanship classes this evening at the 2014 AjPHA Youth World Championship Show. Olivia Eagles scored a unanimous win in 13 and under Showmanship with Chipped In Roses, aka “Brett.” Eagles currently competes under the guidance of Simons Show Horses, as does the Reserve World Champion in the 14-18 division, Mary Camp with Zippos Redemption.

The 13 and Under Reserve World Champion was Brooklyn Moch with Sensational Wow. Third place was Caroline Nielson with Sensational Dee.

The 14-18 Showmanship World Champion was Anne-Marie Fortenberry with her new horse, The Only Kiss To Envy, aka “Scotty Too Hotty,” aka “Scottsford,” aka just plain “Scotty.”

This win is bittersweet for Fortenberry because this is her first trip to the World Show without her previous horse, A Good Intention, aka “Baby Mac,” who passed away last year.

“This is the first World Show I’ve ever been to without him, which is really hard because he was the most amazing thing,” she says. “Then, God completed blessed me with Scotty. I’ve never won showmanship before, but it wasn’t about that. It was more about going in there and doing the best I could, because I knew we were talented in that area.”

Fortenberry and Scotty have only been a team for one month. Here at the World Show, they will be competing in Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, Trail, and Western Riding.

Although Fortenberry pulled out very impressive preliminary and finals patterns today, achieving a near unanimous finish from the judges, she’s the first to admit that showmanship wasn’t always her favorite class.

“It came out of nowhere,” she says. “I used to be so bad at it! Now, I love it and Scotty is so much fun to do it with. He is the most amazing showmanship horse. I can hardly take any of the credit, because he is amazing!”

“The first pattern was my favorite. I thought it was super fun. The second one was vague and there weren’t that many things [to focus on], so I tried to go in and do every maneuver the best that I possible could and try to score plus points that way.”
