Thursday at A Sudden Impulse at World Equestrian Center – Ocala, Sara Simons cinched the win in the $25,000 NSBA 3 & Over Limited Horse Hunter Under Saddle with Dun Gone Southern for owner Sid Karr to the tune of $7500.
They lovingly call the striking dun gelding “Karl with a K,” a horse that will become a future all-arounder for Sid and Sara. It’s also Karl’s first show, and he has definitely started things off with a bang.
“He caught our eye, and we showed the video to Sara – she loved him from the get-go,” explains Sid.
Sara adds, “I said, ‘Don’t buy him, Sid – I’ll buy him for me!’ Sid said he was buying him and I said I understand, but if you don’t want him, I sure do.”
Dun Gone Southern became theirs when he was purchased in August and this show as a first outing was part of the plan. Sid reveals, “We held back, and Sara had a plan to come here and do what we’ve done and it all fell into place.”
Earlier in the show, Mallori Bordic won the $5000 NSBA 3 YO Limited Rider Open Hunter Under Saddle with Karl, and Sara earned a Reserve title with him in the $25,000 NSBA 3 & Over Maiden Horse Hunter Under Saddle.
They’re also starting Karl in showmanship, and Sara explains, “He had a great go in Green Showmanship here, and we’re going to try to get him ready for the World Show. Sid’s really good with a young showmanship horse. He was Reserve two years ago with a four-year-old in the Select Showmanship at the World Show (MsExtremelyHotChips), and Sid’s not afraid to get in there with a young horse.”
Eventually, they explain, Karl will be doing horsemanship and all around events to fulfill his potential as a diverse and talented horse!
Congratulations to the Simons Show Horses team and Sid for the success! We are looking forward to seeing more of this amazing horse.
