Beautiful open blue skies and long days to live it and photograph it . . . if this sounds like heaven to you then join us in a special part of western America where the real west is still alive and EPNet members have special access to document it with our cameras and share it with a group of like minded photographers and horse lovers. There is no other place or event like it on earth!

International photographer Scott Trees will be the lead instructor for the 2015 Colorado Cowboys Sombrero Ranch Workshop and Great American Horse Drive to be held April 25 – May 3, 2015. This workshop is sponsored by the Equine Photographers Network and will be their 10th year for hosting this popular event in Craig Colorado.

“I have done workshops all over the globe,” says Trees, “without a doubt this is my favorite and I look forward to it every year. In terms of large herds of horses, and great locations to shoot them with an experienced crew of wranglers, there is nothing like it any place the world.”

Participants are treated to photographing a slice of authentic western lifestyle with large groups of horses, and real life cowboys and cowgirls. “In terms of authenticity, this is the real deal,” says Trees.

The workshop is followed by the Great American Horse drive. The Sombero ranch herd, with anywhere from 500 – 1200 horses, is moved en-mass 50 miles from their winter pastures to the spring ranch over a period of two days. “There is nothing like seeing that many horses all together at one time. Not only is it a spectacular visual treat, the sounds of all of those horses together in one place is amazing,” says Trees. Participants are given special access to the herd and riders throughout the horse drive over the two day period.

In addition to the locations and settings provided for the students to shoot, there are additional benefits to this workshop. Mark Kettenhoffen of Nikon brings a huge assortment of the latest Nikon gear for workshop students to use at no charge. “Being able to offer Nikon gear to the students gives them a great way to try out different bodies and lens perspectives,” says Trees. In addition there will be two photoshop sessions with five-time California Photographer of the Year (PPC) Sherron Sheppard. The classes will concentrate on building Photoshop skills to enhance artistic vision.

“I enjoy this workshop for a lot of reasons, the horses of course, but more importantly because of the great group of people that all come together to make it happen. With this being our 10th year the instructors and Sombrero staff all work together well to make it a truly special and enjoyable event. We concentrate on whatever it takes to offer students the best option possible to capture some incredible photographs,” says Scott Trees.
