Deanna Searles was in the irons of Al Be Your Sweet Art this evening to win Green Hunter Under Saddle out of an impressive field of 112 horses. She was riding tonight for owner Kathy Tobin, who also happens to be the owner of “Harper’s” sire, Allocate Your Assets.
Last year, Harper was supposed to be Deanna’s mount for the Equine Chronicle Two-Year-Old Masters Hunter Under Saddle class. However, when her daughter, Taylor, was sent to the hospital back home with appendicitis, she made the decision to leave the Congress early.
“When Deanna had to fly home and didn’t show her in the Masters, this horse kind of got put on the back burner, with all the other horses we have,” Kathy says. “We haven’t shown her much this year. We showed her a little at the Arizona Sun Circuit and the Las Vegas Silver Dollar Circuit and then here.”
In a funny coincidence, Taylor ended up leasing Harper from Kathy this year and was just named the Reserve Champion in the Three-Year-Old Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle Limited finals earlier this week.
“It is funny!” Kathy says. “Now, it’s a good thing to come back and be successful here at the Congress.”
Later on at the Congress, Taylor will show Harper in the open finals of the Three-Year-Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.
The Reserve Champion in the Green Hunter Under Saddle was Alyse Roberts with Justin Beamer. Third place was Leslie Lange with A Flashy Invitation. Fourth place was Dawn Baker with Raise Ur Bid. Fifth place was Beth Case with The Publication.
