Day 1 and 2 Results From 2013 National Halter Championship and Breeders Halter Futurity

9/13 UPDATE: NHCS Results Day 2

The 2013 National Halter Championship and Breeders Halter Futurity kicked off yesterday in Des Moines, Iowa, and thanks to show management, we have complete results from day one of the competition.

This combined mega-halter event consists of two portions, both of which will be held at the beautiful Iowa State Fairgrounds. The National Halter Championship is scheduled for September 11th and 12th, and the Breeders Halter Futurity will take place September 13-15. With a combined payout in excess of $1,00,000, this is definitely the place to be for halter horse enthusiasts this week.

Judges for the show this year are Fred Benker, Ronnie Casper, Kenny Hall, Jerri Harmon, Randy Jacobs, Gretchen Mathes, Dave Page, Rhonda Replogle, and Bruce Walquist.

Our very own Gordon Downey is en route to the show to capture Around the Ring photos. In the meantime, here is a brief recap of the first day of competition.

The largest class to take place yesterday was the Yearling Mares with 15 entries. Winning the class in spectacular style was Jason Smith with E Vivacious, a mare by Mr. Elusive and out of Miss Scintillation. This beautiful filly is owned by Jeffrey and Joy Stehney of Desoto, KS. Coming in Reserve in the class was Doug Landon with My Secret Diva, a filly by The Top Secret and out of BR Infinity. The filly is owned by James and Victoria Hoyt of Salem, OR. Rounding out the top three was Jeffrey Pait with KH Genesee, a filly by TD Kid and out of Cherry Crush, for Ray and Kathy Hancock of Saratoga Springs, UT.

Winning the Weanling Colts and Geldings class of eight entries was Telling My Secretz, a foal by Telasecret and out of Priceless Te. This winner is proudly owned by Mindy Clark of Albion, IL. The Reserve winner in the class was Jason Smith with Hy Fa Lootin for Dr. Gigi Wood Davis. The foal is by Heza Stemwinder and out of KJ Mocca Sierra. Rounding out the top three was Ted Turner with Elusionistic, a foal by Mr. Elusive and out of Last Pleazin Bymr. The owner of the horse is Sally Ann Sullivan of Tulsa, OK.

In a class of 11 weanling fillies, Ross Roark led Flawless, a filly by My Intention and out of Imagine Me In First, to a win for Harold and Angela Ryan of Tomball, TX. The Reserve Champion in the class was JT Mitchell with Wicked Intentions, a filly by My Intention and out of KJ Mocca Sierra, who is owned by Kelli Butler of Sperry, OK. Placing third was Monte Horn with EJS Bella Rose, a filly by Cheer For Mocca and out of Phenomenal Childhood, for Erin Jeffcoat of Soso, MS.

Winning the Yearling Stallions class was Ross Roark with Kayotic for Debby Brehm. This young stallion is by Fearles and out of My Sweet Innocence. The Reserve Champion in the class was Doug Landon with BR Smarty Jones for Rose Santos of Auburn, CA. This stallion is by Kid Coolsified and out of DB Roman Valentine. The third place winner was Gene Parker with Smith N Wesson, a stallion by Western Gunslinger and out of Top Secretina, for Donna King.

In the Two-Year-Old Stallions class of five entries, JT Mitchell led Well Executed, a stallion by Execute and out of Pizzazzy Lady to a win for Robin Robinett. The Reserve Champion in the class was Buddy Laney with Coolest Prediktion, a stallion by KMC Kid and out of B BS Prissie Girl, for Chris and Amy Page. The third place winner was Gene Parker with Intent, a stallion by My Intention and out of Traditionsmistres Too, for Diamond 2 M Show Horses.

The Two-Year-Old Mares winner was Ross Roark with Friends With Benefits, a mare by Fearles and out of Leas Secret, for Mindy Clark. The Reserve Champion was Jason Smith with HR Cool SecretDesign, a mare by I Gotta Cool Secret and out of Designer Connection, for Jeffrey and Joy Stehney. Coming in third was Olin Parker with Intentionally Made, a mare by My Intention and out of Starletta Verse, for Kenneth and Lisa Maxwell.

Winning the Two-Year-Old Gelding class was Brian Ellsworth with Non Smokin Kid, a gelding by Not Kiddin Me and out of Blue Smokey Illusion, for Marvin and Pearl Wieneke. The Reserve Champion was Olin Parker with Heck Ya Im Fancy for Charie Beseke. The third place winner was JT Mitchell with Built Execute Tuff, a gelding by Execute and out of Phenomenal MS, for Robin Robinett.

Moving on to Three-Year-Old Stallions, Mike McMillian and Entrepreneurs Touch, a stallion by Self Employed and out of Ladys Magic Touch, were crowned the Champions. The owners of this horse are Donnie and Gayla Tibbitts. The Reserve winner was Steve Cruse with Suchan Ego for James H. Trust Wild. The stallion is by Self Employed and out of Without A Clue. The third place winner in the class was Tim Finkenbinder with Intentions, a stallion by My Intention and out of Barlinkislebeastar, for Mark Voegele.

In Three-Year-Old Mares, Tom Robertson led Get Your Flirt On, a mare by RTH Mr Wilson and out of Sierras Fascination, to a win for Jim Roth. The Reserve Champion was Ross Roark with Hunkee Doree, a mare by Excelebration and out of Prom Package, for Daryl Lakin. Coming in third was Jason Smith leading his own Elusive Donna, a mare by Mr Elusive and out of Donnas Te Light.

Winning Three-Year-Old Geldings was Olin Parker with A Secret Addiction, a gelding by I Gotta Cool Secret and out of MGF Obviously Imastar, for Burns Skyview Ranch. The Reserve Champion was Jason Smith with HR Gotta Cool Skip, a gelding by I Gotta Cool Secret and out of Designer Connection, for Susan Darr. The third place winner was Tom Robertson with Ugonnakissmeornot, a gelding by Western Gunslinger and out of Im Dresed Phenomenal, for Keitha Stutzman.

Winning the Aged Stallions class was Mitch Leonarski with Dirty Dollars for Scott Carroll. Winning the Aged Mares class was Gene Parker with MNC Kupcakez for Diamond 2 M Show Horses. Winning the Aged Geldings was Ted Turner and Sanctified.
