Dan Yeager and Cee Money Win QH Congress Amateur Select Showmanship

Thus far at the 2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress, Dan Yeager’s horse, Cee Money, has claimed three Reserve Congress Champion titles in the Limited Western Pleasure Open Maturity with Brad Ost, Novice Amateur Western Pleasure, and Select Western Pleasure. But that coveted first place spot has eluded the pair, until this morning…

Just a few moments ago, Yeager and “Money” were named the Congress Champions in a competitive Select Showmanship class of 72 entries. The Reserve Champion was Sherrie Gultz with Invy Of Me. Third place was Linda Coakley with Patsys Royal Secret.

“I am ecstatic,” Yeager says. “I work so hard, just like everybody else does, and I have great trainers that keep me on track. I couldn’t be happier. Charlie [Cole] and Jason [Martin] are incredible, and Brad [Ost] has helped me so much.”

“Showmanship is not my favorite class, but I’ve worked the hardest at it. It’s difficult; it doesn’t come naturally for me, I would say. I’ve gotten some great help over the years, and it all came together today.”

Yeager and Money are a relatively green team when it comes to this particular event; they’ve competed in it for less than a year. However, Money, a 5-year-old gelding by Watch My Potential, is proving he has the versatility to compete in multiple disciplines. Yeager is hoping to add Select Trail and Select Horsemanship to their repertoire next year.

“He’s still pretty green at Showmanship, but he wants to do a good job,” Yeager says. “He’s light, so the trot-offs were really good, and his turnarounds were good. We’ve had trouble with our back in the past, but he has really come along and become a really good backer now. He is really responsive.”

When you win so many trophies at the Congress, how do you keep track of them all? Yeager’s solution… you have to start naming them. Yeager’s close friend, Angela Fox, has a great suggestion for this new addition to the bronze herd.

“We named my World Show trophy ‘Sweet Cheeks’ and this one will be ‘Sugar Lips,” he laughs.
