Thomas and Mimsi Coon have had a fabulous start to the 2017 All American Quarter Horse Congress, and it’s only just begun! Yesterday, the Coons’ longtime trainer, Ted Turner, led Entrigue to win the Open 3-Year-Old Mares class in spectacular style. Then, the pair returned later in the afternoon to win the title of Open Grand Champion Mare!
This is Entrigue’s first trip to the Quarter Horse Congress, so Thomas was throughly pleased with her debut performance. “This is her first time here, so it’s really awesome,” he says. “She showed really well. She was on the muscle and looked great.”
Entrigue is by Mr Elusive and out of a daughter of Cool Eternity. The Coon family has owned the pretty mare for several years now, and she’s brought them much success. “I won my first World title with her as as weanling, and she’s won several more Reserve Championship titles for me. Last year, my wife, Mimsi, won at the Select World, and then she won again this year and was unanimous.”
Although Entrigue did come away with a big title yesterday, Thomas knows there’s no guarantee heading into this weekend’s amateur classes. “It’s no cakewalk! There’s always pressure. You never know which judges you will have. Different judges mean different opinions.”
“I think she’s a really pretty mare with a pretty neck and head. She’s very alert and easy to show. She always keeps her ears up. She likes her job.”
Thomas showed another mare, Inexces, to win a Reserve Congress Champion title in Open Yearling Fillies yesterday, as well as a win in the Elite Halter Futurity Weanling Fillies and limited division of the class.
Congratulations to the Coon family on their success thus far at the 2017 All American Quarter Horse Congress.
