Congress Releases Statement About Cancellation of Amateur Versatility

On behalf of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, I want to thank the many exhibitors, owners, trainers and spectators who have supported the All American Quarter Horse Congress horse show over the last 48 years. The Congress Tri-Chairmen strive to keep the Congress growing and evolving. We respond to industry trends and offer new classes and embrace new disciplines that will allow all Quarter Horse enthusiasts to show at the Congress.
In 2013, the Congress added Short Stirrup Reining, Small Fry Showmanship and Open Ranch Horse Pleasure. Ranch Sorting also became part of the Congress with the addition of the “Congress Super Sort.”
Every year, the Congress Tri-Chairmen assess industry trends, analyzing yearly data, and evaluate the schedule. For 2014, eight new classes have been added: Small Fry Trail, Small Fry Equitation, Amateur Ranch Horse Pleasure, Congress Stallion Halter Futurity Yearling stallions, mares and geldings, and Green Trail will be divided into Junior and Senior Horse. A Small Fry Division High Point Winner will also be recognized for this very popular age group.
Participation in one historically popular class, Amateur Versatility has been declining for the past decade. The tough decision was made to not offer Amateur Versatility in 2014. Versatility may return in future years. There is even discussion about bringing Open Versatility back to the Congress.
Once again, thank you for your support and rest assured that the Ohio Quarter Horse Association is constantly striving to make sure the Congress lives up to our motto, “Still The One.”
