What a surprise this week when we spied one of our advertisers, World Champion One and Only Asset, on the cover of this year’s 2023 APHA rulebook!
One And Only Asset’s owner, Amber Duckett explains, is giving his fans one “smore” reason to read the rulebook. Why the smores?
As Duckett began standing the homozygous stallion, “Marshall,” and his babies were born, they were referred to as “marshmallows”, and the game was on for owners to include marshmallows and smores in creative ways in barn and registered names of many of his foals.
Learn More About Marshall
All fun aside, Marshall has seriously proven himself to be whole package as both an individual and as a stallion, says his social media manager, Megan Rechberg of Bred N Butter Equine Management.
“As an individual, Marshall is a World Champion across disciplines. He has won World Titles in Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, and Performance Halter. He has won in both the Open and Novice Amateur divisions, which we feel is a true testament to what an honest and good-minded horse he is in his own right. And he was the 2022 Pinto World Show Open All-Around Stock Horse Champion.”
She says as a Stallion, he is also consistently producing good-minded, trainable, talented, correct foals. “We consistently have breeders tell us their babies are the friendliest they’ve had and so easy to train. Marshall’s first foal to show was a Longe Line World Champion and his first foal to show under saddle was a Reserve World Champion in both the 2-year-old Western Pleasure and 2-year-old Hunter Under Saddle.”
Megan adds that it’s one thing for a stallion to be a great individual in their own right, but they love that Marshall is passing on his trainability, kindness, talent, and versatility to offspring. “We are so excited for the future!” she says.
Quite The Exemplar
She explains that it’s only fitting to choose a horse like Marshall for the cover of the APHA Rulebook. “Paint horses have made their name in the pleasure industry as versatile, trainable mounts… with color! And Marshall meets all three of those key characteristics. He not only competes across disciplines, but he wins in them! And, of course, his color makes him stand out for all the right reasons. We think he is a great example of what makes showing and breeding Paint horses fun.”
Look for Marshall’s foals, known as ‘Marshmallows,’ showing in the majors in both the yearling and under saddle events.
