A special congratulations goes out to 14-year-old Tatum Richey of Madisonville, Texas, who was recently named the Champion of Champions in Novice Youth Western Pleasure with her horse, Ode To Zippo, at the 2016 Aggie Super Circuit. As the Texas Quarter Horse Youth Association Reporter, Tatum can be spotted around the rings taking pictures and posting FB messages of congratulations for her fellow riders. We thought it was about time someone reported on her accomplishments!
“I’m such a fan of Western Pleasure. In the Quarter Horse world, it’s well known that Western Pleasure horses are usually very specialized for that class. Ode and I have always been the underdogs in Western Pleasure. Trail is usually where he is best. It has taken years for people to see what a gifted horse he is in Western Pleasure. Most people just see him as a world class trail guy. I’ve always believed in him and prayed someday that he could show his great moves.”
“I’ve watched many of the World Champions like Hillary Roberts, Deanna Green, and others. They’re such beautiful riders in Western Pleasure and have been personal mentors. I guess it truly does pay off studying from those you admire so much. Winning this award was a dream of mine for a really long time. I’m humbled by this win. I can’t believe we finally did it. I’ve got to thank my trainer, Nancy Cahill, for teaching Ode and I both how to shine in the show arena and how to be a true horseman out of the arena.”
