Do you have a color horse? Are you ready to win some money? You will get a chance during the first leg of the Color Choice Futurity that will be held in conjunction with the American Buckskin Registry Association World Championship Show next week, July 23-28.
In order to compete in CCF classes, horses must have been sired by a CCF-enrolled stallion. If you’d like to enroll your stallion, you still can! Contact the CCF office today for details and rates.
Stallions currently enrolled include: A Scenic Impulse, Awesome All Night, Colored By Charlie, Don’t Zip Me Up, Dun Goin Steady, Fleet Machine, Good N Gallant, He’s Smokin Hot, Iresistable Sudden, John Simon, Lazy Luvah, MDR Impulsive, Original Cowboy, Required Invitation, Scenic Rio Krymsun, Taken, The Sugar Daddy, Whata Vested Asset, and Zippos Sensation.
What is the Color Choice Futurity, you may ask? It’s a new program for color horses to compete for added money in classes like Longe Line, Western Pleasure, and Hunter Under Saddle. It is strictly reserved for Color Breed horses that are registered with APHA, ApHC, ABRA, IBHA, or PHBA.
“In an effort to help improve our industry, we have formed the Color Choice Futurity program to benefit those breeding, raising and showing Paint, Appaloosa, Palomino and Buckskin performance horses,” says Program Coordinator, Jennifer Sheriff.
“With the long wait period to raise and train performance horses before they get to the show pen, we have structured the CCF program to better fit the needs of our owners and exhibitors. We have eliminated the Mare Nominations and Weanling Nominations. The Color Choice Futurity features a Stallion Enrollment fee and begins with Yearling Nominations with a fee schedule. This user friendly format is designed for a faster return on our participant’s investment. After many discussions with stallion owners, mare owners, and trainers, everyone agreed there was need for this type of futurity program. The Color Choice Futurity will offer Longe Line, Two-Year-Old and Three-Year-Old Classes with additional bonuses and prizes in 2018.”
The first CCF classes of the year will take place at the ABRA World Show in a two go-round format. Each class will have $1,000 added plus a $250 bonus to the highest placing two-year-old in each class. Classes include Non Pro Yearling Longe Line, Open Yearling Longe Line, Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle (2, 3, and 4-year-old), Open Hunter Under Saddle (2, 3, and 4-year-old), Non Pro Western Pleasure (2, 3, and 4-year-old), and Open Western Pleasure (2, 3, and 4-year-old).
Other CCF events will be held throughout the year. At the conclusion of the show season, the Leading Stallion, based on combined results from all CCF classes in 2018, will receive $1,000 in cash. The Leading Dam and Leading Breeder will receive beautiful trophies.
“We have some very exciting things in store for the Color Choice Futurity and we are glad to be a part of the ABRA World Show,” Sheriff says. “One of our goals is to encourage Open and Non-Pro participation and reward the color horse breeds. The ABRA World show is followed the next day by The World Wide Paint Horse Congress and then NSBA World Show. With all of these opportunities at one location, it makes a very user friendly environment with a chance to take home lots of cash and prizes to owners, exhibitors, and trainers.”
