CO. Horse Park Staff Step Out Into the Community to Help Those in Need

The Colorado Horse Park is home to a full schedule of over 40 events each year, including local and national world–class equestrian competition in multiple disciplines. It has been home to the North American Junior and Young Riders Championships and the National combined Driving Singles Championships.

Behind the scenes at The Colorado Horse Park, the staff is known for their goodwill in the community and for going the extra mile to help out. On a regular basis, every member of the staff gladly goes beyond required job descriptions to reach out and support the community.

Carole Kenney, Equine Manager at The Colorado Horse Park, recently set up an account for donations for the family of Arapahoe High School shooting victim, Claire Davis. But this isn’t the first time she’s helped out those in need.

“A local trainer’s Jack Russell terrier jumped into one the boiling pools at Yellowstone,” said Helen Krieble, founder and President of The Colorado Horse Park. “The trainer stepped into the pool to save her dog and her leg was very badly burned.”

Kenney orchestrated a Colorado Horse Park benefit show to help the trainer.

“I never would have learned of it without Carole,” continued Krieble. “Another trainer got kicked in the face and had to have reconstructive surgery. Carole raised money for her medical expenses. She has that kind of constant awareness about the needs of families here. She is always so giving.”

Brian Curry, Vice President of The Colorado Horse Park has also gone above and beyond to support the community. In 2012, a fire was closing in on The Colorado Horse Park and the adjacent houses.

“Brian had all our barn staff out there with the water trucks and drags creating a fire break and saved the houses on the south of CHP,” Krieble said. “He tried to stop that fire. Our men coughed for about two weeks; they were so inundated with smoke. On another occasion, a house caught fire at the edge of the property. Curry and team had hoses and water out there well before the fire department arrived.”

In the summer of 2013 when the nearby Black Forest caught fire, all the staff, including Krieble, Curry, Chief Financial Officer Geoff Combs, Vivien Van Buren, who heads up Entertainment and Education, and Lisa Klymkow, Vendor Manager, did their part to help the victims of the fires. The Colorado Horse Park housed many horses, cattle and other farm animals uprooted by fire

“It is that kind of thing – all staff members are willing to step up, every single one of them” Krieble said. “They are all multi-talented and multi-tasked. We are very lucky.”

Krieble is also a much-respected community leader in Colorado, and active in national politics. She has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the Denver Art Museum, the Free Congress Foundation, Radio America, the Colorado Horse Development Authority and the Colorado Horsemen’s Council. She is a founding board member of the Leadership Program of the Rockies, one of the most highly acclaimed and successful political leadership training programs in the country.

Krieble is keenly interested in immigration reform because of its impact on the equestrian world. Now she works tirelessly to earn support for her “Red Card Solution,” a simple, free-market guest-worker approach to immigration.

Krieble has presented her “Red Card Solution” on Capitol Hill, on major network news programs and talk shows, and to the National Press Club.
