While halter competition is well underway in the Coliseum, over fence exhibitors are competing in working hunter events in the Celeste Arena here at the 2013 All American Quarter Horse Congress. In a tough Green Working Hunter class of 63 exhibitors, Chuck Briggs and Blue Sky Serenade were named the Congress Champions for owner Rodger Call.
A thrilled Call was waiting outside the arena to congratulate Briggs on his win.
“Today, Chuck won with my horse Blue,” Call says. “Then, two years ago, he won with my other horse. That’s two out of the last three years. That’s exciting!”
“This is Blue’s first year to do this. I bought him in January of 2012. He will also go in the Junior Pleasure Driving, Junior Working Hunter, and Junior Hunter Hack with Chuck and the Junior Hunter Under Saddle with Alyse Roberts.”
Although Call isn’t planning to compete with “Blue” here at the Congress, he hopes to begin showing in Select events with the horse in 2014. Instead, Call will be showing his tried and true Go Big Sky, aka “Marcus.”
“I will show him in Select Working Hunter, Select Equitation Over Fences, Select Hunter Hack, and Amateur Pleasure Driving,” Call says. “Linda Crothers will show him this evening in the Hunter Classic. Last month, he was reserve in the AQHA Huntfield Derby Finals with David Connors.”
In addition to Blue Sky Serenade and Go Big Sky, Call is excited to add yet another mount to his stable.
“I have a new 4-year-old that Chuck found for me,” he says. “I need to have a junior and senior horse every year! Chuck’s good at finding some nifty horses.”
We would like to wish Rodger Call and Chuck Briggs the very best during their upcoming classes here at the 2013 Quarter Horse Congress with what we have determined are definitely some very nifty horses.
