If you’ve been watching along on the live feed from the 2017 AQHA World Championship Show, you may have noticed a slight change in protocol this year for the presentation of the coveted golden globes. We reached out to AQHA Manager of Publicity and Special Events, Sarah Davisson, to get a little more information on the new procedure for this year’s event.
In an effort to highlight this year’s World Champions even more, any L3 World Champion crowned during daytime classes will be invited to the Trade Show in the new Bennett Event Center to participate in a special ceremony at the ARC Champions Circle backdrop, where they will then be presented with their golden globe. The presentations will kick off at 5:30 pm on days when L3 finals take place before 5 pm.
“The ARC Champions Circle is a special time set aside for the World Champions to be interviewed and presented their coveted golden globes,” Sarah says. “We invite the World Champions, along with any connections, and the class sponsors to the ARC Champions Circle for this special presentation.”
“The Level 3 World Champions will continue to be recognized in the arena during the class awards, no matter what time the class takes place. For Level 3 finals classes before 5 p.m., the trophies will then be presented at the ARC Champions Circle, where we will interview the exhibitor and any connections to the horse.”
The ARC Champions Circle presentations will be broadcasted via Facebook Live on AQHA’s official Facebook page, in case you aren’t there to attend in person.
In contrast, any L3 World Champion that is crowned during an evening finals performance will receive their golden globe in the arena. “The Level 3 finals classes after 5 p.m. will be presented only in the arena and the exhibitor will be interviewed by The American Quarter Horse Journal,” Sarah says.
There is also a champagne toast and the opportunity for winning competitors to chat about their beloved equine partners.
