Typically, when you see the name “Starnes” listed in the results of a western pleasure class, it most likely refers to horse trainers Jay or Kristy Starnes. However, today in the limited division of the 3-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure Futurity, it was Momma Starnes’ turn to take home a big win.
Cathy Starnes showed Hot Lopin Goodbar to a Congress Championship win in the class this morning. Coming in Reserve was Jessica Baird aboard So Dang Lazy. Third place was Michelle Favorite and Good Luck Only. Fourth place was Brittany Bevis with Suddenlee Single. Fifth place was Katie Johnson with Touched Softly.
A tearful Starnes was greeted by a massive fan club as she headed forward to accept her Congress bronze. The crowd applauded a touching moment when Starnes’ proud husband gave his wife a kiss while she was still on horseback.
This isn’t the first big win at the 2013 Congress for Hot Lopin Goodbar. Brian Rastall piloted the horse to a Reserve Congress Championship finish in Green Western Pleasure just a few days ago. The winner in that class was Bret Parish with KM Hot Number.
The open division of this 3-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure Futurity will take place on Monday.
