Even though the difficulty level was intense, competitors and their horses rose to the challenge scoring some incredibly high marks. When it was announced that the tenth place horse had marked a 227, it was clear that the judges rewarded exhibitors accordingly.

“I’ve never made the finals before, so I was thrilled with just that,” she says. “This is just a complete bonus. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.”

To look at the smiling face and witness the exuberant personality of AQHA youth, Rebecca Anderson, you’d never know she had to overcome some difficult circumstances to attend the Youth World Show this year. More specifically, Anderson is currently competing with two skull fractures and a brain bleed.

“I didn’t expect that many to come back [to the jump-off],” Myers says. “Usually, it’s only three or four, so it was definitely scary. It got us going, and we tried to get a really good time on the first one. Sylvester is really good at turning, so we tried to make as tight of turns as we could.”

Horses weren’t the only animals receiving applause during last night’s competitive Western Pleasure finals at the 2013 AQHYA World Show. A baby bat decided to make an appearance as well.
