Horse and rider pairs that compete in NRHA reining events run a pattern that is designed to show off the athletic ability of a ranch-type horse within a show arena. These patterns include both slow and fast circles, roll backs, spins, flying lead changes, and the crowd-favorite: sliding stops! This year, the Association facilitated more than 200 rides, which gave many youth the opportunity to ride an American Quarter Horse for the first time.

Baggage allowance: Just like human flights, each equine passenger has an allocated baggage allowance, by weight – however this includes the horse itself! Plus water, hay, 30 kg shavings as bedding, water buckets, feed buckets, tack bags (for saddles and bridles), rugs and any spare equipment.
