From the earliest days of western cattle ranches, cowboys needed a horse that could handle the strain and pressures of working cattle each day. While the West has long since been settled, American Quarter Horses are still the preferred partner for working cattle ranches. At the 2015 Zoetis AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championships, these horses proved they can also clean up, go to town and bring home a haul of prizes.

The Great Lakes are about to become even greater with the addition of the Great Lakes Paint Horse Championship, which will take place in conjunction with the Zone 8 Show May 14–15 in Cloverdale, Indiana. This is a new addition to the Paint Horse Championship lineup, which made its full debut in 2015.

Also new this year, 70 percent of the entry money will go to the class jackpot, while 30 percent of the entry will go to awards and administration costs.

The Southeast Paint Horse Championship returned with a bang in 2016, taking place at the Zone 9 Southern Classic February 19–21 in Jacksonville, Florida. With a full complement of classes, exhibitors participated in a variety of Youth, Amateur and Open classes for expanded recognition.
