The NSBA Foundation, with your help, continues to support our horse show community through these uncharted waters. Therapeutic riding centers still need horse shows to stimulate their clientele, Veteran riders still look for challenges as they look to rebuild their lives, trainers will still be faced with unknown crises, and animals, of all kinds, will still need the protection offered by the NSBA Foundation.

Robin Merrill Appointed to 2020-21 AQHA Foundation Board of Trustees

Merrill and her husband, AQHA Past President Frank Merrill, have been involved in AQHA and the American Quarter Horse industry for many years and have been major supporters of the Foundation and its initiatives. The Merrills received AQHA’s 50-Year Breeder Award in 2018, and Frank was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2013.

AQHA Cancels VRH World, RHC Finals, Cattle L1 and NRSHA National Championship

Due to the uncertainty of the worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, AQHA leadership has made the decision to cancel the AQHA VRH World, RHC Finals, Cattle Level 1 and NRSHA National Championships for the safety and well-being of exhibitors, trainers, spectators and staff. Several factors went into the consideration of this decision, including but not limited to the health and safety of attendees; local, state and federal government guidelines and mandates; the potential economic impact the coronavirus will have on our members as this situation evolves; and shelter-in-place orders that have prevented exhibitors from competing with their horses leading up to the event. Feedback was also gathered directly from NRSHA alliance partners. In addition, AQHA disseminated a survey to AQHA exhibitors, who were qualified for the event, to gather additional feedback.

After an injury while riding, Greg decided to slow down and move closer to family. The Wheat family moved to Louisiana and it is here where Greg decided to concentrate on his son, Steve’s, show career. Also, it was here that he had the idea to start a NSBA Futurity, the NSBA Summer Breakout Show, located Cloverdale, Indiana. After a successful two years, Mr. Wheat plans to continue his futurity and will eventually move it to the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio.

“AQHA received multiple requests from exhibitors to host the Nutrena Level 1 classes later in the year,” said Justin Billings, AQHA chief show officer. “After careful consideration and discussions with AQHA leadership and the host facilities, we are pleased to have the opportunity to add the Nutrena Level 1 classes to the respective AQHA world shows, which will be held pending local, state and government mandates due to the worldwide pandemic.”
