Intercollegiate Equestrian Foundation Announces Memorial Horseman Scholarship

The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and the Intercollegiate Equestrian Foundation (IEF) have announced that the family of Naomi Blumenthal will honor her memory with a scholarship in her name. Blumenthal, a longtime member of the IHSA board of directors, passed away on Dec. 13, 2020. Blumenthal’s daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Corey Schneider, approached the IHSA and the IEF with the idea to create a scholarship that would honor her lifelong service to the equestrian industry.

Congratulations to Youth Selected For AQHA Young Horse Development Program

The Young Horse Development Program participants raise their weanlings-turned-yearlings and document their monthly progress; participate in webinars; complete monthly management assignments; track goals; engage in mentoring sessions with local AQHA Professional Horsemen; and compile videos of themselves with their horses, completing assignments including trailering, an in-hand trail pattern and more. Following project completion, a select number of scholarships and prizes are awarded.

Paint Alternative Competition Undergoes 2022 Program Upgrades

PAC currently has 45 class categories, with nearly 20 having few credit-earning participants over the past five years. The task force consolidated this list of categories down to 26. The consolidations included combining the appropriate 4-H and Youth categories so that Youth participants’ credits would no longer be divided, as well as combining the ranch and cattle classes into one category. These revisions will increase competition within the PAC program and simplify the way in which classes are organized into PAC class categories.

APHA Introduces New Youth Futurity Project

Youth have the chance to earn prizes and recognition for their equine futurity projects starting in 2022. The program is open to all Youth exhibitors and all breeds of horses, with extra incentives offered to Paint Horse futurity projects. The objective is to teach and encourage Youth to learn horse-training skills by raising and training their own animals. Outside guidance from trainers, parents and/or coaches is allowed, but Youth are required to be the sole handler as of April 1 of the show year. The culmination of the project takes place at the 2022 APHA World Championship Show.
