Meet 2020 APHA Executive Committee Member Nominees

Three APHA members are in the running to fill the APHA Executive Committee Fifth and Sixth Member spots in 2020. Nominees are Kelly Boles-Chapman of Bellevue, Michigan, Lee Ann Hall of Kilkivan, Australia, and Sandy Jirkovsky of Whitesboro, Texas. They will be considered by the APHA Board of Directors for the positions at the 2020 APHA Convention, February 28-March 1 in Fort Worth, Texas.

“Truthfully, I didn’t set out to win the Amateur All Around award either year,” Angela says. “But, I’m lucky enough that he’s pretty good at several of the classes we compete in, so that’s always part of the goal. After last year, I really wanted to start Horsemanship, because I didn’t do that last year. Also, I wanted to get even better at the individual classes we compete in together. So, the All Around award is just an amazing bonus.”

AQHA World Show Awards Nearly $2 Million in Purses and Prizes

Again this year, more than $150,000 was added to the halter prize money thanks to the generosity of 10-year cumulative breeders Steve and Kathy Headley of Bloomington, Indiana; 30-year cumulative breeder Linda Gordon of Fossil Gate Farms, Roanoke, Texas; and 30-year cumulative breeders Terry and Tammy Bradshaw of Thackerville, Oklahoma. The halter bonanza also recognized the top Adequan® Level 2 exhibitors in both the open and amateur divisions, splitting $10,000 between them.

“Anytime you show a stallion, it’s so competitive, probably because of the financial aspect of it,” Scott says. “Then, the 2-year-old division is probably the most competitive class that everyone wants to win. So, I did feel a little pressure, but the whole time I knew that I had a great horse, and that always makes it easier. But it’s a horse show, and there are a lot of dynamics that go on. 90% of it is the horse, and then you’ve got 10% of stuff you can’t control.”
