Combine three teenagers, six horses, a healthy dose of competitive spirit–and don’t forget the stress of a big horse show–and what do you get? It sounds like what follows should be a punchline, but this is the busy reality the Herman family lives as they prepare for the AQHYA World Show which is held in Oklahoma City this August.

As third generation showmen, Caroline, Jack, and Ella Kate are all fierce competitors and have proven themselves as forces to be reckoned with in the show pen. But more important to each of them is the family fun horse shows give them–the memories made, the camaraderie of time spent together, and the support they provide to each other. If there’s a Herman teen in the pen, there’s a 100% chance there are two on the rail beaming with support and pride.

The three siblings love spending time at their family’s 260-acre Bixby, Oklahoma, ranch called Black Top Ranch, and they all express genuine appreciation for the guidance they receive from trainers Kevin George, Gil Galyean, Leonard and Leigh Berryhill, and Adam and Kelley Wainscott. Mom and Dad aka Krista and Robie play a pretty important role in helping their dreams come true, as well. To put it mildly, it’s truly a team effort to get all 24 hooves and six human feet successfully in the show pen and at the top of their game.

The Equine Chronicle caught up with Caroline, Jack, and Ella Kate, who are preparing to do exactly that as they look forward to the Youth World and beyond.
