ABC News has reported that California governor, Gavin Newsom, is calling for the shutdown of Santa Anita Park until an investigation can determine why 29 horses have died since the start of the 2019 racing season. Since March of this year, several reforms have taken place, including a zero tolerance policy for many medications on race day. That may have resulted in the fact that there were no fatalities between April 1st and May 18th. Sadly, two horses died at the track over the weekend, prompting the discussion to begin again.
