In a competitive class of 21 entries it was Brooke Dryden aboard DZS Mac Dandy who were named the World Champions in ApHC 13-15 Horsemanship this afternoon. Coming in Reserve was Josephine Rimmer with Scotch Tape My Weedo. Third place was Ally Brown with Zip Plus Four. Fourth place was Katie Davis with Duplicated DZ. Rounding out the top five was Casey Temple with Roys Hot Investment.
Dryden has been riding “Toby,” a 14-year-old gelding by DZ Weedo and out of Gemini Princess, for two years. He’s actually her mother’s horse, but Mom was nice enough to share.
“My horse has an injury, so he’s out for a little bit,” she says. “Mom always lets me ride him, just this time I’m only riding him and not my horse.”
Dryden and Toby have only just begun their journey here at the ApHC Youth World, placing fourth in 13-15 Trail just the other day. The pair will also compete in Western Pleasure, Western Riding, and Equitation. Last year, Dryden and Toby were the Reserve World Champions in Western Riding. Today’s win marks her first World Championship title.
“The pattern was fun; it wasn’t too hard. [Our best part] was definitely the lead change. He has a really good lead change…I think! He’s good at the pivots too. We had a full forehand turn and a 180 on the haunches.”
“You work so hard and then it finally pays off. I’ve been riding for three years, so I’m out of everything novice, but I’m still kind of new at this. I don’t want to add any other classes, because I already do so much. I really like pleasure, so I’d like to stick with that.”
Currently, Dryden and Toby compete under the guidance of Lonnie Cruse.
