Breeders’ Halter Futurity Secretary, Karen Kennedy, is thrilled to relay some very exciting news about the upcoming show that will take place in Des Moines, Iowa, September 10-13.
“At the present time, I have 593 weanlings, 293 yearlings, and 75 2-year-olds nominated for the Breeders’ Halter Futurity,” Kennedy says. “I am very excited to hit the 600 mark for weanling nominations any day!”
Like in year’s past, the National Halter Championship Show will be held in conjunction with the BHF and is open to all AQHA, APHA, and ApHC registered horses. Judges that have accepted invitations to officiate the event include John Boxell, Jim Fuller, Clint Fullerton, Kenny Hall, Bob Kail, Debbie Kail, Chip Knost, Tommy Manion, Terry Sartain, and John Shepard.
A new bonus at the show this year is the $25,000 payout for the 2-Year-Old Open and Amateur classes that will be spread over ten places.
In addition, the overall Amateur Champion of Champions will receive a whopping check for $25,000. The total earnings for the Champion will be $32,500.
There will also be enhanced owner/breeder/exhibitor payouts in addition to regular payouts, including ten places begin paid in Amateur Weanling classes.
If you’d like a chance to take home a piece of this pie, remember, foals must be nominated every year. The $300 nomination fee for yearlings and 2-year-olds is due by June 1st. Nominations can still be paid after this date, but the fee increases. Weanling foals may be nominated within 60 days of foaling for $200. Then, the amount increases to $300 by June 1st.
The first entry deadline for both the BHF and National Show is July 15th. The stall reservation deadline is August 11th.
There are also big changes coming down the pipeline for the National Halter Championship. Classes will not only be offered for weanlings, yearlings, and two-year-olds, Grand Champion Mare, Stallion, and Gelding will be chosen in both Open and Amateur divisions. Each Grand Champion will receive an additional $5,000 and a custom belt buckle!
