After six and a half hours of Trail competition, a winner was finally named in the 168 entry Senior Trail class. Brad Ost and Chex Me Im Cute were named the Congress Champions in Senior Trail with a score of 235.5

The Reserve Champion was Michael Colvin with PF Put It In Park with a 235.5. Third place was Terry Cross with Mystical Machine scoring a 233.5. The fourth place team was Chad Evans with Lil Bit Western scoring a 233.5 Rounding out the top five was Kellie Hinely with Triplicate Pleasure scoring a 232.5.

Ost won the Green Western Riding here at the Congress last year, but he has never before won a Congress title in Trail.

“The cool part about Trail, that I really like, is there is a handful of horses that can win the Trail on any given day,” he says. “It just depends on who has a good go, so everyone gets a pretty fair chance. That makes it difficult in a sense, but it gives everyone a chance to really shine, and I’m glad it was my turn today.”

Ost has been riding “Blondie” for the better part of this year and was named the Reserve Champion at the recent NSBA World Championship Show. The mare is one of three horses he will be riding in Senior Trail at the upcoming AQHA World Show.

“Blondie won the Junior Trail with Bruce Vickery a few years ago,” he says. “Then, the owners took her home, and she had a baby. Then, Bonnie Sheren bought her and put her in training. I’ve just been riding her this year, and she’s been really good. It’s a good match. I like her; I get along with her really well.”

Ost was thoroughly pleased with Blondie’s pattern this afternoon, praising her accuracy and eye-appeal over the poles.

“I think the best part about her is that she’s so careful,” he says. “Her lope-overs are super easy, and she just lifts over the poles. She has a good appearance out there; she is really happy looking; and she uses her ears really well. Those are probably her strongest points. You can really count on her for being really clean over the maneuvers, most of the time. I couldn’t have asked for much more from her.”

Ost’s friends will be happy to hear that he is well on his way to making a full recovery from an ATV accident a few weeks prior to the Congress. “I’m feeling much better. I’m just glad to be here, so this is just icing on the cake.”
