Boot Scootin’ Party Helps Raise More than $25,000 For AQHA Foundation

The American Quarter Horse Foundation hosted the Boot Scootin’ Foundation Party on March 9 at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas, during the 2019 AQHA Convention.
“The Foundation is a place for everyone,” said Anna Morrison, chief officer of the American Quarter Horse Foundation. “Last year, the Foundation Council felt it was important to get back to a Foundation event at Convention that was fun, affordable and open to everyone. This year’s event didn’t disappoint! Everyone had a chance to listen to great live music, swing around the dance floor, and catch up with good friends, all while supporting the Foundation!”
Admission to the party was only $25, and nearly 650 Convention attendees broke their cowboy boots and best hats out to dance the night away at this year’s honky tonk-themed event. Asleep at the Wheel performed a live concert with a guest appearance by Red Steagall, and attendees also enjoyed mechanical bull rides, pool tables and a boot-shine station.
The Foundation hosted a mechanical bull competition, where eight riders were bid upon and competed to raise money for the Foundation. Participants were AQHA 2019-20 President Stan Weaver of Big Sandy, Montana; AQHYA Past President Ty Cornelius of Mount Pleasant, Arkansas; Allyn Mann, representing AQHA Corporate Partner Adequan®; AQHA Executive Vice President Craig Huffhines; AQHA Chief Financial Officer Aaron Bovos; AQHA Chief Foundation Officer Anna Morrison; AQHA Chief Show Officer Pete Kyle; and Manager of AQHA Professional Horsemen and Team Wrangler Karen McCuistion.
In the final round, Morrison and Kyle vied for the title, and Morrison stayed on for the ride, earning her the title of champion. Steve and Kathy Headley were the winning bidders and generously donated the funds to the Foundation. The mechanical bull competition raised more than $25,000 for the Foundation and its initiatives.
The Boot Scootin’ Foundation Party was graciously underwritten by the Amon G. Carter Foundation and Johnny and Jana Trotter, whose support has helped party-goers enjoy the best in live entertainment.
The American Quarter Horse Foundation connects horses and people through charitable giving to develop and support programs or initiatives that preserve our horse’s legacy and further the overall well-being of the American Quarter Horse and the people who comprise the Quarter Horse family.
